Night Hike with conserve southwest utah

  • Red Hills Desert Garden Pavilion 375 Red Hills Parkway St. George, UT, 84770 United States (map)

Did you know one of the most prominent working arachnologists in the U.S. is an advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion?

Dr. Lauren Esposito (she/they), at the California Academy of Science, even took LGBTQ+ advocacy to a new level by leading the “500 Queer Scientists'' project – a visibility campaign for the LGBTQ+ community and allies working in STEM fields. While Dr. Esposito is busy making waves in her field of biology, join us as Zach Valois, local arachnid expert and Public Lands program manager for Conserve Southwest Utah, leads a short nocturnal trek for a closer look and heightened understanding of these curious creatures and the precious public lands in which they dwell.

This will be a short hike along an easy trail, so all physical abilities can be accommodated, including children. However, cactus and other hazards can be difficult to see at night, so closed-toe hiking shoes and long pants are recommended.

Be sure to bring a white-light flashlight and come well hydrated with extra water.

Stormy conditions could lead to this hike being rescheduled. To minimize our impact on these sensitive landscapes, this hike is limited to 15 participants.

Please note: it’s highly likely that we’ll experience some arachnid activity on this walk. Anyone with a fear of scorpions and/or spiders may choose to avoid this event.
